Xingyu Zhang Receives Best Student Paper Award at SPIE Photonics West

UT ECE graduate student Xingyu Zhang recently received the Best Student Paper Award at the annual Conference of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) Photonics West Conference, which was held in San Francisco from February 7-12, 2015. Xingyu won for his paper entitled "Antenna-coupled silicon-organic hybrid integrated photonic crystal modulator for broadband electromagnetic wave detection" (SPIE paper 9181-40), in the OPTO conference 9362 - Terahertz, RF, Millimeter, and Submillimeter-Wave Technology and Applications VIII.

This is Xingyu's second Best Student Paper Award. He also received a Best Student Paper Award at the Organic Photonics + Electronics Symposium in 2014. Xingyu Zhang received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, and his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, MI. He is currently nearing the end of his PhD degree at The University of Texas at Austin, under the supervision of Dr. Ray T. Chen
